What to consider when buying LiFePO4 batteries?

What to consider when buying LiFePO4 batteries?

With the rapid development of electrical systems, there is an increasing demand for long-life batteries, which is why LiFePO4 battery systems based on lithium iron phosphate technology have become a very popular solution in both residential and industrial sectors in recent years. Let's see what is worth knowing about LiFePO4 battery cells!

LFP batteries - what you absolutely need to know

It is no coincidence that lithium iron phosphate technology has become so popular, as it combines outstanding safety with a long cycle life and exceptionally stable performance. This can be advantageous in many application areas. Whether we are building a solar energy storage system or a battery pack for a motorhome, boat, or electric vehicle, LiFePO4 cells can be a good choice due to both their design and their load capacity.

Cylindrical or prismatic battery cells - which one should I choose?

When it comes to building a custom battery pack, a common question is whether to choose cylindrical or prismatic battery cells. While cylindrical cells are mainly advantageous for smaller systems, prismatic cells can be more beneficial for larger energy storage systems. Although cylindrical cells offer excellent mechanical stability, heat dissipation, and load characteristics, assembling many cells is necessary for high capacity.

For motorhomes, boats, electric cars, solar systems, or serious industrial applications, the use of prismatic cells is recommended. However, if you need smaller-sized and fewer cells, the 18x65 mm 18650, the 21x70 mm 21700, and the 26x65 mm 26650 types can all provide good solutions.

It's not all about capacity

When choosing a battery cell, one should not make the mistake of deciding solely based on the ampere-hour rating, as real-world performance is influenced by other properties as well. Of course, a high-capacity battery cell provides long runtime, but in such cases, the load capacity is equally important to avoid overheating, rapid aging, or capacity loss.

Perhaps the most important thing to pay attention to is the internal resistance of the battery. The lower this is, the better the quality we are dealing with, meaning higher efficiency, lower heat generation, greater power output, and potentially longer service life.

A-grade or B-grade? Here's the difference

You may also come across A-grade and B-grade markings on battery cells. Naturally, this indicates a difference in quality, so if we are looking for battery cells for truly professional use, this is definitely worth paying attention to. A-grade products clearly represent the premium category, so they not only meet all manufacturer specifications but also have uniform capacity, show low variance, and have a longer expected lifespan. B-grade products, on the other hand, may show greater capacity variations, may have higher internal resistance, and may even exhibit minor cosmetic manufacturing defects.

Battery cells from EU warehouse - how to ensure safety

Of course, safety depends both on choosing a high-quality battery and on proper usage. For this reason, in many cases, using a Battery Management System (BMS) can be essential, as it provides continuous monitoring, thus helping to prevent overcharging, deep discharge, overcurrent, or overheating.

Would you also choose a battery that represents the highest quality in terms of capacity, load capacity, and safety features? Choose our LiFePO4 batteries!
